Kevin Costner is the proud father of seven children.
The ‘Yellowstone’ star has three grown-up children – Annie, 38, Lily, 36, and Joe, 34 – from ex-wife Cindy Silva, and son Liam, 26, from ex-partner Bridget Rooney. The Oscar winner married his current wife, designer Christine Baumgartner, in September 2004 and has three children by her: Kaden Wyatt, 15, Logan Hayes, 13, and Grace Avery, 12.
Although Costner is a movie star himself, the proud father told PEOPLE in June 2020 that his kids are just “normal” kids.
“I feel very comfortable with my family,” he adds. “I feel really good with my kids.”(Kevin Costner children)
In November 2022, Costner told PEOPLE that being a father was one of his greatest joys. (Kevin Costner children)
“You have to get down on the ground and play with them,” he says. “And you teach them to be independent – and the sad thing is, they become that way. I’m like any other parent: I try to figure everything out.
The actor adds that when he’s not working, he leads a normal life with his family. (Kevin Costner children)
“I work as a provider. I’m a father and a husband, but the world doesn’t revolve around me,” he explains. “When I’m not shooting a film, I’m living and being on the highway with my wife, taking the kids to their things or waiting for them to come back from a party. I just cross my fingers. People have the wrong idea about how my life goes.”

Annie Costner :
Kevin Costner’s oldest child, Annie Costner, was born in Los Angeles on April 15, 1984.
At an early age, she followed in her famous father’s footsteps and played the role of Christine in the Oscar-winning film “Dances With Wolves” alongside Costner. Her other acting credits include The Babysitters Club, The Postman, and Lazy Teenage Superheroes.
Annie eventually transitioned from acting to producing. She co-founded Sound Off Films, which launched in 2014. With her company, Annie has produced several documentaries including the Katy Perry tour documentary “Witness,” “The Pittsburgh Drug Trials,” “The Outcasts: A Tale of Two Rios,” “Kicking and Screaming,” and more.
In July 2016, Annie married a doctor named Dr. Danny Cox at her father’s private estate in Carpinteria, California.
Lily Costner :
Lily Costner, the second child of Costner and Silva, was born in Los Angeles on August 4, 1986.
Like her older sister, Lily starred in the 1995 films The Babysitters Club and The Postman, in which Costner played the title role.
In addition to being an actress, Lily is also a talented singer – much like her father, who is also a musician and the lead singer of his band Kevin Costner & Modern West. She has been featured on the soundtracks of some of Costner’s projects and joins his band in a duet on the song “Heaven’s Gate,” included on the album Tales from Yellowstone.
In June 2014, the band released a new album. Costner boasted to HuffPost of Lily’s singing talent, “Lily is a fantastic singer and songwriter. She can become a really big star if she wants to. I’m not sure she wants to do that. She’s really talented. Lily’s way is not to break down doors. I think she wants a quality of life… She’s seen the quality of our lives and sometimes the thought of fame, I think, is a mystery to her.”
Joe Costner:
Joe Costner, the youngest child of Costner and Silva, was born in Los Angeles on Jan. 31, 1988. As a child, he starred in “The Postman” alongside his father and older sisters, after appearing alongside Costner in “The Lead Goblet” in 1996. Today, Joe works behind the scenes in the entertainment industry as a sound engineer and sound mixer for productions.
“Joe just graduated from Boulder. He is very gifted musically. He knows where he’s going… And what his mission is. “You can judge how well he’s done in life by the quality of his friends and how he’s kept them. I tried to encourage him, it’s good to be on his own.”
Liam Costner:
Costner welcomed son Liam Costner during a brief relationship with Bridget Rooney, niece of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ then-owner Dan Rooney. Born in November 1996, Liam generally stays out of the spotlight.
Caden Wyatt Costner:
Costner married Christine Baumgartner in 2004, although the actor was reluctant to remarry and have more children after his divorce from Silva in 1994.
“Christine wanted a child, but I was afraid I wouldn’t be a good father,” he told Parade in 2008. I decided I wasn’t going to let love slip away.
A few years after the couple tied the knot, their son Kaden Wyatt Costner was born in Los Angeles on 6 May 2007. Costner was 52 when Kayden was born and admits to PEOPLE that he had concerns about being a 50-something father, but adds that it has its benefits.
He adds jokingly, “I can pretend to sleep longer so I don’t have to change so many nappies.”
When Kaden was just a year old, the proud father revealed to PEOPLE that his son was already showing an interest in music. “He has a couple of little guitars, he listens to the band, and sometimes he sits on my knee when I write rough tunes,” he says. “He likes a good beat.”
The actor also shared how he and Baumgartner were preparing Kaden to be an older brother, as the couple was expecting their second child at the time. “We tried to prepare him,” Costner said. “We showed him the pen where the baby would be, and he started throwing crap in it.
Hayes Logan Costner:
Hayes Logan Costner was born in Los Angeles on
February 12, 2009, weighing 8 pounds and 15 ounces. At the time of his birth, Costner revealed that his nickname was inspired by a cowboy character in a western movie he was working on and that Hayes was “a great western name”.
When Hayes and his siblings aren’t participating in the kids’ daily activities, they attend their father’s movie premieres.
Hayes also has a small role in Costner’s four-part Western epic Horizon. The father of seven admits to PEOPLE that he had ulterior motives in casting his son.
“He’s very good,” Costner said. “But I did it on purpose so he could have a good time with me.
Grace Avery Costner :
Costner and Baumgartner welcomed their third child, daughter Grace Avery Costner, on June 2, 2010, in California.
At 5 years old, Grace began to understand her father’s need to transform his appearance for his blockbuster hits. While preparing for his action flick Criminal, Costner shared during an appearance on Today, “My children are kind of used to that — Chris has to explain, ‘Daddy looks a little different sometimes at the PTA meetings.’ ” He added, “If I come home — and that haircut I actually had was pretty severe — and Gracie looks at me and then looks at Mom and says ‘Daddy’s been fighting again, huh?’ “
Unlike her brothers, Grace is not into sports. In the same interview with Today, Costner discussed his “girly girl” and her interests. “She’s sewing and she’s dancing, but when she sees the ball bouncing out in the backyard I can feel her gravitating out with the boys — but everything has to stop when she plays,” he said.
