Ke’tara Shavon Wyatt, better known as Keke Wyatt, was born on March 10, 1982, in Indiana, United States. She is an American R&B singer and television personality. Wyatt’s parents were musically inclined and as a child, she sang gospel songs in church. At home, her parents introduced her to a lot of secular music, including R&B. When Wyatt was in her early teens, she sang in several female groups – one of them being a very early version of the shopping group Destiny’s Child. During her teenage years, Wyatt met her mentor Steve Huff, who is known for his work with the Islay Brothers and other great R&B artists.
BACKGROUND
Ke’tara Shavon Wyatt, or Keke, was born on March 10, 1982, in Indianapolis, Indiana, United States, the daughter of singer Lorna Jean Wyatt and organist and singer Keever West Wyatt II. Her mother is Caucasian and her father is Cherokee. She has two brothers, Keever III and Kendall. She comes from a musically oriented family with deep roots in church music. However, the singer’s parents introduced her to R&B at home and encouraged her to pursue different styles of music. She can perform a variety of genres including gospel, R&B, pop, country, and opera. She can also write music.
Wyatt started singing at age two and did her first live performance at age five. In 2000, at the age of 18, she married Rahmat Morton, a former track and field athlete. They divorced in 2009 and the following year married Michael Jamar Ford, an ordained minister. The two divorced in August 2018. After her second divorce, she married her ex-boyfriend Zakaria Daring in October. She has 11 children.
Her first breakthrough came after a successful collaboration with R&B singer Avant in his platinum album “My Thoughts”. Her first album “Soul Sista” was released in 2001 and went gold. Wyatt’s first single, “Used To Love,” went almost unnoticed, but her second duet with Avant, “Nothing In This World,” became a huge hit. In 2004, she signed with Cash Money Records/Universal Motown Records and released her second album, “Emotional Rollercoaster”, which was not a success. She then signed with TVT Records, where she reunited with her former manager Quadri El Amin.
